The ACT Attorney-General, Simon Corbell announced on 9 January 2015, that the ACT Government intends to introduce a Bill later this year regarding a scheme to have criminal convictions erased from a person’s records for those convicted of consensual homosexual acts in the ACT.
Until November 1976 consensual homosexual sex was illegal in the ACT. Offences a person may have been charged with included attempted buggery, buggery on a male person and indecent assault on a male person.
Other states and territories are developing their own scheme (such as Victoria, NSW and the UK).
