The High Court is the highest court in the Australian judicial system.
Today, High Court Justice Patrick Keane was welcomed to the bench at a swearing-in ceremony at the seat of the High Court is in Canberra.
Justice Keane previously served as Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia from 2010. Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, he sat as a Judge on the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Queensland.
Justice Keane is the fiftieth appointee to the High Court which was established in 1901 by Section 71 of the Constitution. Justice Keane replaces the retired Honourable Justice John Dyson Heydon AC.
